Before you go
Vietnam is a safe and popular destination for solo travellers, and travelling as part of a group can make it even easier.
Absolutely! Vietnam is one of the most popular destinations for young backpackers thanks to its affordable prices, amazing food, incredible scenery and huge range of activities.
Vietnam can be visited throughout the year, but the best time depends on which regions you’re travelling to. Generally, Feb to April and September to November offer pleasant conditions across much of the country.
Vietnam is a very budget-friendly destination for backpackers. Accommodation, street food, transport and activities can all be relatively inexpensive, meaning you can experience a lot without spending a fortune.
We recommend around 2–3 weeks to experience some of Vietnam’s highlights without feeling too rushed. This gives you enough time to explore places such as Hanoi, Ha Long Bay, Ninh Binh, Hoi An, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City.
Visa requirements depend on your nationality and how long you plan to stay. Always check the latest requirements before travelling, as rules can change.
Definitely. Vietnam has a huge backpacker community, making it easy to meet people along the way. Group tours are also a great option if you want to explore with a ready-made travel crew.
Definitely try pho, banh mi, Vietnamese spring rolls, bun cha, cao lau and Vietnamese egg coffee. Street food is a huge part of Vietnamese culture and is one of the best ways to experience the country.
The Ha Giang Loop is a multi-day adventure through the spectacular mountains of northern Vietnam. Travellers can ride through winding mountain roads, visit local villages and stop at incredible viewpoints along the route.
